Pet Medical Advice

The best pet medical advice can be given by a veterinary doctor only. This write up is just to give you idea about the medical care that has to be taken. This write up is not meant for replacing the visit to the veterinary doctor.  Some of the main issues in pet medical advice are as follows.

Spay or Neuter : Precaution is better than cure. If the reproductive organs in the pet are removed there are no chances of reproduction. The pet owner needs neither to worry about the heat nor the nuisance of reproduction and consequently the puppies and kittens.

Vaccinate: The cats should receive vaccination for protection against feline rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus, panleukopenia, and rabies. Try to get your cat vaccinated for feline leukemia, feline infectious peritonitis, chlamydia, and ringworm. The five in one vaccine is recommended for the dogs. The vaccine should be able to protect the dog from  leptospirosis, rabies, distemper, parvovirus, kennel cough and Lyme disease.

The Veterinary doctor: Get the pet regularly checked by the veterinary doctor. The pulse, temperature and the respiratory rate is going to be checked by the doctor. If necessary the doctor can recommend some medical laboratory tests too.

Fleas: The pets have the worst time of their life once infested with the fleas. Precaution is the best way but once infested with  these parasites the best way is to get a flea control product that is prescribed by the veterinary doctor. The flea control products for dogs are not for cats and vice versa.

Heartworm : Once infected with the Heartworm, the treatment is usually difficult and sometimes even fatal . This infection can be easily  prevented. This disease is usually transmitted through mosquitoes and can be prevented by making the dog consume a preventive tablet every month. The natural hosts for the heartworm are the dogs.

Exercise: Make you pet exercise a bit so that excess of calories get burnt. Lack of exercise can lead to obesity and inactiveness on the part of the pet. The pet should be lively and active and any indication of inactivity is a sign of sickness. Make your  pet play and have as much fun as possible. The more the activity the less is the chance of obesity.

Weekly check : Check the eyes, ears, nails, hair and skin of the pet for any probable abnormality.

Avoid: Some of the foods that are normally consumed by human beings should be avoided. This list includes avocado, coffee, macadamia nuts, onions and onion powder, salt, garlic, alcoholic beverages, chocolate, fatty foods, moldy or spoiled foods, raisins and grapes, yeast dough, and products with xylitol.
